Hi there!
I hope your new year is off to a good start and going better than you expected. Did you start the new year by creating a list of resolutions? Did you start the new year by creating a bucket list? Whether you are a resolution maker or bucket list enthusiast, the most important thing is to prioritize your dreams and aspirations. You need to have clear goals, and the motivation to pursue new adventures.
Your bucket list does not have to be limited to travel only. You might be someone who is philanthropic and who gets a kick out of volunteering, and participating in humanitarian missions locally or abroad. You could be a lover of animals and enjoy making the world better for animals.
Your bucket list could also be in the form of pursuing different cultural immersion experiences. You might be a foodie and you enjoy numerous cuisine experiences. You could be an adrenaline junkie who gets a kick out of bungee jumping, sky diving, or other hair-raising, loud-yelling, heart-thumping-in-your-mouth experiences. You are the curator of your bucket list. What is stopping you?
Before the pandemic, I would create a list of resolutions on the 1st of the year. A few weeks into January, I would realize very quickly that I was not doing well in following through with my resolutions. During the pandemic with all the uncertainty that surrounded us, I decided to create a bucket list of things I wished to accomplish, someday. Someday because like you, I did not know where or how the tides of the pandemic would turn. I was learning to live one day at a time, and not plan too much for the uncertain future. On my bucket list was travel, learning Spanish, and creating memories to last a lifetime. I yearned to travel, explore new cities, and new food, visit places I had been to previously, create new memories, and rekindle old ones.
One memory I wanted to create and have was to visit Masai Mara and go on safari. I grew up hearing the word safari over and over again and I imagined it to be an out-of-this-world experience. I watched many commercials on TV showing the Big 5 on screen and showing tourists having a great time in the plains of Masai Mara. I envisioned being on safari one day, I had a dream of going on a game drive and watching the great wildebeest migration. I will write about my experience in the Mara in upcoming blogs.
Your bucket list should revolve around you dreaming big, thinking beyond your limitations, and creating unforgettable memories. Your bucket list should bring you joy, force you out of your comfort zone, allow you to travel different paths, and look back at your life and say, “Am I glad I got to experience that!”. You get to decide what your “that” is.
What is on your bucket list this year?
